Dorothy's Spots: by Kathleen Warren.
Dorothy the Dinosaur was sleeping soundly in her dinosaur bed, dreaming of roses.
Suddnely, something strange happened. "What was that?" she asked herself. She got out of bed and checked to see if everything was alright.
Looking out the window she saw a sun peeping over the horizon. "It's nearly morning," she thought. "Time for a cup of rosy tea." She went to put the kettle on.
As she carrying her tea back to the bedroom, she caught sight herself in the mirror. "Oh my goodness," she cried, putting the tea down, "my yellow spots have disappeared!"
She looked in the mirror again. Sure enough there were no spots to be seen. She was a plain green dinosaur from head to toe.
"What has happened?" she wondered. My spots were there when I went to bed. Where have they gone? I'd better ring The Wiggles. They'll know what do do."
She dialed Wigglehouse but no-one answered. "That's funny," she thought. "The Wiggles must be out early today. I'll try Captain Feathersword."
She rang the Good Ship Feathersword but again, no answer. "The Captain and Wags are early birds too," she said to herself. "What can I do?"
She tucked herself back in her bed feeling miserable and afraid.
Meanwhile, over at Wigglehouse everyone was getting up. "What a lovely day it is," said Greg looking out the window.
"Time for breakfast," called Anthony as he put a bowl of green, red and yellow apples on the table.
"Anyone for cereal?" asked Murray putting the cereal on the table and taking a jug of creamy milk from the refrigerator.
"Tomatoes and cheese on toast for me," said Jeff.
The Wiggles enjoyed their breakfast. Just as they finished, Captain Feathersword arrived with Wags and Henry the Octopus. "We're on our way to Dorothy's house. Coming with us?"
The Wiggles agreed and soon the friends on their way. They knocked on Dorothy's door but there was no answer. They knocked again.
"Perhaps she's gone out," suggested Murray. "Maybe she's asleep," said Jeff. Greg help up his hand. "Shush!" They listened and heard a faint, "Come in."
"That's Dorothy's voice," said Captain Feathersword. "Something's wrong. Come on me hearties. We,d better find out what it is."
When the friends went inside they found Dorothy in bed with covers tucked up to her chin. "What's the matter, Dorothy?" asked Henry, "Aren't you feeling well?"
"Oh Wiggles, Captain, Wags, Henry" whimpered Dorothy with big tears trickling down her face. "I've lost my yellow spots. I'm just a plain green dinosaur."
The friends looked at each other. Dorothy the Dinosaur without her spots? Was it possible? "Are you sure?" asked Murray.
Dorothy pushed the covers back. She covered her eyes with her hands. "I can't bear to look," she sobbed.
"But Dorothy," said Greg "your yellow spots are still there. Every single one of them!"
Dorothy took away from her eyes. Indeed her spots were there, just as they had always been. "B…but…b…but…," she began.
"You've had a bad dream," explained Jeff. "Your dreamt your spots were gone but now you're awake you can see they're still there. You've had a scary nightmare."
Dorothy shook her head in disbelief. "But it seemed so real." "Nightmares often do," agreed Jeff. "But they are only dreams."
Dorothy sighed with relief. "Well I'm glad about that," she laughed. "Come on and I'll make us all a fresh pot of rosy tea." And she did.
