—Dorothy in "Dorothy's Dance Party" |
This article is about the Wiggly Friend. For the song, see here.
Dorothy the Dinosaur is one of the Wiggly Friends. She is a "rosasaur" (a dinosaur who eats roses), coloured green with bright yellow spots. She is seen wearing a white, floppy hat with a red rose in it, as well as white gloves. Dorothy loves singing, dancing, eating roses and making rosy tea. She lives in a pink and purple house with a large rose garden in her backyard. In 2024, Dorothy took on a new role as "DJ Dorothy", debuting at Hello Sunshine '24, and later went on to release her first album The Wiggles Sound System: Rave of Innocence.
Dorothy was the first character in The Wiggles' franchise, debuting on The Wiggles' debut album in her eponymous song. She was created by Murray because he recognized that children are fascinated by dinosaurs.
The way Dorothy works is that the performer inside can see through the pupils of Dorothy. Plus, on top of her hat, there's a vent so the performer can have some breathing space.

Trivia[]
- Dorothy is one of the most popular Wiggles characters, to the extent where she was given her own live tours and even her own TV series from 2007-2011.
- She was the first Wiggles character to be created, being introduced in 1991 and first appearing in her self-titled song.
- Murray was inspired to create her because many of the children he was teaching in his preschool class were interested in dinosaurs.
- In "An Irish Dinosaur Tale", it is revealed that she was born in Ireland, making her the second character in the franchise confirmed to have a non-Australian family background (after Jeff) and the first (and to date only) international Wiggly Friend.
- She mentions in the Yummy Yummy video that her favourite colour is pink.
- Dorothy's signature dance move is akin to an Egyptian walk, popularized by the song "Walk Like an Egyptian" by The Bangles.
