Lyrics[]

The Wiggles (album)[]

Greg: Lavender's blue, diddle, diddle, lavender's green,
When I am king, diddle, diddle, you shall be queen.
Call up your men, diddle, diddle, set them to work,
Some to the plow, diddle, diddle, some to the cart.
Some to make hay, diddle, diddle, some to cut corn,
While you and I, diddle, diddle, keep ourselves warm.

(Instrumental break)

Lavender's green, diddle, diddle, Lavender's blue,
If you love me, diddle, diddle, I will love you.

Pop Go The Wiggles![]

Lavender's blue, dilly, dilly, lavender's green,
When I am king, dilly, dilly, you shall be queen.

Roses are red, dilly, dilly, violets are blue
If you love me, dilly, dilly, I will love you.

Lavender's blue, dilly, dilly, lavender's green,
When I am king, dilly, dilly, you shall be queen.

Roses are red, dilly, dilly, violets are blue
If you love me, dilly, dilly, I will love you.

Let the birds sing, dilly, dilly and the lambs play
We shall be safe, dilly, dilly out of harms way

Trivia[]

  • An alternate version of the 2007 recording, later featured on Disney Music Block Party, had Carolyn Ferrie singing in her regular singing voice rather than as Dorothy. This version was also titled Lavenders Blue (Dilly Dilly).
    • The reason for it being included was because it was sung in the 1948 Disney film So Dear to My Heart, as performed by the late Burl Ives, which helped make Ives and the song itself popular in the first place.
  • The 1991 version plays in F, the 2007 version plays in D, and the alternate 2007 & 2016 versions plays in C.
  • The strings heard in the 1991 version was played on Jeff's E-mu Emax.
