Throughout the years, The Wiggles has made several references to famous TV shows, movies, music, etc. Here's a work-in-progress list of all the references in The Wiggles!
Pre-Wiggles[]
- The title of the song Rock-a-Bye Your Bear may reference the 1952 MGM cartoon short Rock-a-Bye Bear, mostly named after it.
- The inspiration for The Wiggles is from the 1957 album The "Chirping" Crickets by The Crickets, the Australian version of the cover album, which is a possibility for inspiring the coloured shirts.
- The Starfleet uniforms from the original 1966 Star Trek mainly inspired the Wiggles uniforms.
- The cover of the 1980 album of End of the Century by Ramones, which inspired the Wiggles uniforms.
- The movie poster of the 1991 film The Five Heartbeats showed the groups wearing colourful outfits, which mainly inspired The Wiggles, which was the same year it debuted.
- The character Wags the Dog is likely named after Wag the Dog, a political term that creates a diversion from a damaging issue, usually through the American military force.
- Dorothy's signature dance move is akin to an Egyptian walk, popularized by The Bangles' 1986 song Walk Like an Egyptian.
- Bok the Hand Puppet's origins date back to the 1990s, when Anthony Field, Murray Cook, and Greg Page studied early childhood education at Macquarie University. Rosemary Harle had a clown puppet named after the Italian composer and cellist Luigi Boccherini.
OG Era[]
Wiggledance![]
- The video is named after the 1983 musical film Flashdance.
- During the ending performance of "Wags the Dog", Anthony says, "Yeah, nothing but a hound dog." This is a reference to the 1956 Elvis Presley song, Hound Dog.
- When Doctor Murray is introduced, The Wiggles says, "What's up, Doc?" This is the direct catchphrase of Bugs Bunny from the Looney Tunes cartoons.
Yummy Yummy (1998)[]
- Anthony makes an Elvis impression when he says, "I've got my shaking clothes" during the prologue of Shaky Shaky. At the same time, the shaking clothes are also inspired by Elvis' outfits throughout his career.
Toot Toot![]
- In the original version of the song "Toot Toot, Chugga Chugga, Big Red Car", when the Big Red Car is flying towards the sky and the Other Wiggles waving back to the viewer, This is a reference to the ending of the 1978 film Grease.
It's a Wiggly Wiggly World![]
- The name's title refers to the 1963 film It's a Mad, Mad, Mad World.
Wiggle Bay[]
- There are several references to Gilligan's Island
- The songs C'est Wags, C'est Bon and Alouette are both in French.
- The Wiggles and Mary Ann have a message in a bottle.
- Wags the Dog plays the conch shell. This refers to the episode Music Hath Charms, where The Professor plays the recorder in the orchestra.
- Magdalena the Mermaid is likely inspired by Ariel from the 1989 Disney film The Little Mermaid.
Space Dancing![]
- The line in Going Home, "But there's no place like home", is a direct quote from the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz.
Whoo Hoo! Wiggly Gremlins![]
- The title references the 1984 film Gremlins.
- When The Wiggles crash through the wall, it is a homage to Kool-Aid Man.
- When Anthony says, "Food, I'll be back! Hasta la pasta, baby!" this is a reference to the 1984 film The Terminator and the 1991 sequel Terminator 2: Judgement Day where the T-800 says the quotes "I'll be back." and "Hasta la vista, baby."
A Wiggly Postcard from Asia[]
- At one moment, Paul Paddick sings a rendition of "Follow the Yellow Brick Road" from The Wizard of Oz while standing at the iconic Great Wall of China.
Top of the Tots[]
- The title's name references the British music program Top of the Pops.
Cold Spaghetti Western[]
- The title's name is a pun on the movie genre Spaghetti Western.
- When Anthony says to Fernando, "Can you hear the drums, Fernando?" this refers to the song Fernando by ABBA.
- During the Foodman song, when Foodman says, "Hasta la pasta, baby!" refers to the 1991 film Terminator 2: Judgement Day where the T-800 says, "Hasta la vista, baby."
- When Anthony and Captain Feathersword were doing the fastest banana competition in the west, which is a reference to the final scene from the 1966 film The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.
Racing to the Rainbow[]
- The King of the Road's outfits are inspired by Elvis Presley and the 1976 Cadillac Seville, also owned by Elvis.
- The Queen of the Rainbow refers to the character Glinda the Good Witch from the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz.
The Wiggles Reunion Show[]
- When the Wiggles and the audience wake Jeff up, Jeff says, "My name is Jeff." This was a meme quote by Greg Jenko from the 2014 film 22 Jump Street.

Foodman[]
- When Anthony transforms into a Foodman, he spins around like Diane Prince in the 1975 Wonder Woman TV series.
- While reciting the Food Pledge, Foodman says, "able to eat tall sandwiches with a single bite" and "faster to the table than a speeding train". These references the Superman phrases "able to leap tall buildings in a single bound" and "faster than a speeding bullet", respectively.
Murray's Shirt[]
- The Acme Obedience Kit references the Acme Corporation from Looney Tunes.
Jeff the Mechanic[]
- While The Wiggles wait for the mechanic to fix the Big Red Car, Anthony performs a dance inspired by Irish-American tap dancer Michael Flatley.
Lilly[]
- When the Catfish brothers sang "Yeah, Yeah, Yeah! I wanna dance with a clam", it referred to The Beatles song called "She Loves You".
- In Captain Feathersword's Pirate Show segment, Wags mimicked the Captain's movements. This refers to the 1965 TV special A Charlie Brown Christmas when Snoopy mimicked Lucy's movements. Only Wags stood behind the Captain, and Snoopy stood next to Lucy. The Captain didn't notice Wags mimicking the movements.
Zardo Zap []
- When Zardo Zap said, "Resistance is futile", this is a quoted phrase from the Star Trek series associated with the Borg.
Wiggle Opera[]
- Jeff's opera song about Wags the Dog is a rendition of O Mio Babbino Caro.
Funny Greg[]
- When the other Wiggles bow down. They've bumped into each other's heads. This is a reference to The Three Stooges.
