Paul Newell Hester (8th January 1959 - 26th March 2005) was an Australian drummer, percussionist, and television personality best known as a member of the bands Split Enz and Crowded House. Hester performed as a musician on Toot Toot!, the North American reissue of Yummy Yummy, and Let's Wiggle and made a guest appearance in the Yummy Yummy video as Paul the Cook.
Following his departure from Crowded House, Hester collaborated with close friend and former Cheks/Deckchairs Overboard bandmate John Clifforth on Clifforth's Craven's Pharmacy album, worked as a session musician for artists such as Ross Wilson and singer/producer Richard Pleasance, and formed the bands Largest Living Things and Tarmac Adam. In addition to performing as a musician, he also appeared as the host of television programs Hester's Shed and The MAX Sessions and served as the bandleader of The Mick Molloy Show, with the former and latter programs regularly featuring Largest Living Things as the house band.
On March 26th, 2005, Hester took his own life at age 46 after suffering from depression for several years.
