"The Monkey Dance" is a Wiggles song from the Yummy Yummy album and video. The song encourages kids to dance like three animals: a monkey, an elephant, and a tiger. It's a re-written version of The Cockroaches' song "Do The Monkey".

Trivia[]

  • During the Santa's Rockin'! tour, Greg played Murray's red guitar during the song.
  • This is one of Greg's favourite songs.
  • Greg does an elephant sound in the 1994 version.
  • In the 1994 and 1998 versions, Jeff does monkey and tiger sounds and Murray does an elephant sound. In the 2013 version, Emma does monkey and elephant sounds and Lachy does a tiger sound.
  • On 4 Song CD, the song is listed as "Monkey Dance".
  • For the Spanish version, the song is titled as "El baile da chango".
  • The English version plays in A while the Brazilian version plays in F Sharp.
  • Though originally one of the most popular songs at concerts and in videos from 1994-2013, it has since fell out of the rotation of greatest hits in favour of songs from the new generation's catalogue. The song commonly gets played at OG reunion shows.
  • In both versions of Yummy Yummy, a different Wiggle introduced this song, in the 1998 version, Anthony introduced the song, whereas in the 1994 version, Greg introduced the song.
  • This song was nominated for Children's Composition of the Year at the 1994 APRA Awards, losing to "Hot Potato".
  • The 1998 clips of this song and "Get Ready To Wiggle" played in the intermissions of Chuck E Cheese's Rockin Rhymes show in April 2001.
  • On Xuxa's album and video Xuxa Só Para Baixinhos, the Brazilian version is called "Dança Do Macaco".
  • On the Panda Vai Á Escola album and video, the Portuguese version is called "A Dança do Macaco (The Monkey Dance)".
    • The 1998 video didn’t appear in any episodes of TV Series 2.

Goofs[]

  • In the 2002 clip, Anthony's drum set moves a little bit.
  • During the end of the song as the 1998 re-recording version, Greg says the last line "the tiger, tiger" but the "roar" sound is muted until it finishes.
