The Wiggles Show! is a Mandarin-language Wiggles television series created for Taiwanese audiences, serving as an adaptation of the Australian series of the same name.

Like the previous Taiwanese series, it aired on Disney Channel's Playhouse Disney block on Disney Channel Taiwan in 2006. However, unlike the earlier production, created by Walt Disney Taiwan, this series was produced in-house by The Wiggles in Australia, similar to the format used for the Latin American series.

Due to the production hiatus following the first series and the shift in filming location from Taiwan to Australia, the cast underwent partial recasting. Samuel Chung and Vivi Lin joined the group as the Blue and Red Wiggles, respectively, while Arthur transitioned from the Blue Wiggle to the Yellow Wiggle.

The exact number of episodes remains unknown, though it is widely believed to be 26. While there has been speculation that the episodes may eventually be released on The Wiggles' official YouTube channel, no official confirmation has been made.

Production[]

Filming for the series primarily took place in September 2005.[3]

Broadcast and Runtime[]

Archived cable listings for Disney Channel Taiwan show that the TV series had multiple broadcast runtimes depending on the day and year.[4][5]

From Monday to Friday, the show was listed with a 5-minute airtime, likely referring to the short interstitial music videos (similar to the likes of Let's Wiggle, Wiggles Time and The Wiggles) used by the channel. Beginning around 2007, the program began airing on weekends, with time slots expanding to 10 or 20 minutes.

Analysis of Disney Taiwan listings and archived promotional material suggests that the actual episodes were approximately 7 minutes long, similar to Dorothy the Dinosaur. A typical 10-minute slot could be filled with a 7-minute episode plus 3 minutes of advertising[6], while the 5-minute slot likely contained only a short music video clip and ads.

A 20-minute slot may have been used either for reruns of the 2003 Taiwanese series (confirmed to have aired in early 2006 at 7:59 AM), or for back-to-back episodes.

Flash microsites for the group on Disney Taiwan's website (including the Vivi/Samuel site[7] and the final documented version of the Anni/Carlos site[8]), as well as a "TV Times" section on the the group's official website[9] confirm scheduled runtimes such as 7:59 AM, 7:30 AM, and 10:55/10:50 AM, matching the archived cable guides.

The series' last known airing was documented on July 8, 2007[10]; by October 12, 2007[11], the series was no longer being broadcast.

Trivia[]

  • Much like the series produced by Disney in 2003, this version frequently incorporates English vocabulary while being predominantly spoken in Mandarin.
  • Vocals for the series were recorded at Hullabaloo Music.[12]
  • The majority of the series was filmed using green screen, except for scenes featuring the Big Red Car or footage filmed at Dreamworld.
  • This series marks the first use of the updated Wiggly Friends costumes, later seen in Racing to the Rainbow and Dorothy the Dinosaur's first TV Series.
  • Although mostly obscured, the original "Big Red Car" text from the car model used in Racing to the Rainbow can be faintly seen in the first shot of the opening sequence.
  • This is the final Wiggles production filmed in standard definition (576i); from Racing to the Rainbow onward, TV series and video specials would be produced in high definition (1080p).
  • This is one of the few TV series produced directly by The Wiggles not to feature an end credits sequence.[14]
  • Despite the title card saying The Wiggles, the show's cast refer to it as The Wiggles Show!.

  1. The last documented version of the previous lineup's Flash microsite was archived in April 2006 - the second lineup's site seems to have officially debuted in May (Despite the Wayback Machine reusing its .swf file for previous snapshots of the site (i.e. 2004 and early 2005), when Vivi and Samuel hadn't officially joined yet). However, the first appearance of the 7:30 and 10:55 schedules on China Post was documented on June 23, 2006. The official premiere date is currently unconfirmed.
  2. The section showcasing airtimes on the Disney flash site later changed from "Monday to Friday" to "Every day", presumably to promote the full 7-minute episodes airing on weekends (despite the 10-minute timeslot not being mentioned). This change was first documented on October 27, 2006, with the Monday-Friday schedule last appearing on August 21st; a China Post schedule from October 6, 2006 does not list The Wiggles on a weekend slot, implying that the full series premiered sometime within this time period.
