The Wiggles and Friends was an animated Wiggles series that aired on the ABC in Australia and Playhouse Disney in both America and Europe from Mid 2000 to Early 2004. The first two seasons and shorts aired in Australia from March 2000 to September 2001. Coinciding with their 10th Birthday Tour in the November 2001 to March 2002, the series got picked up by the Disney Corporation for five random episode and shorts in April to May of 2002. The series was written by Don Arioli and Greg Truman, and animated in collaboration by Plastic Wax Animation and Funbag Animation Studios (both companies would later work on animations for Space Dancing!, The Wiggles Show! and Getting Strong!)
The full run of the series and shorts used the 2nd design of The Wiggles and company, which was used from 2000 to 2003 in various promotional material and merchandising. Plans for a fourth season using the new 3rd Cartoon Wiggle designs from 2004 was planned and even a few scripts and shorts had started being worked on, but was cancelled in early 2004 as both the new cartoon designs hadn't been finalized yet and the show was doing less success compared to the Live-Action series. In late 2003, a collection of episodes and shorts were released on a video titled "Wiggly Toons" released in Australia, America and Europe. The shorts and episodes would have reruns on ABC and Playhouse Disney from 2005 to 2016 before being pulled. In 2023, as part of Sir Lesley Longley's Wiggly Archive, various episodes from the series were posted to The Wiggles Youtube Channel with the removal of Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport from Episode 11 of the second series (despite that version not including Rolf Harris's vocals).
The series featured various songs from the groups catalogue, including songs from their first three albums (The Wiggles, Here Comes a Song and The Adventures Of Captain Feathersword, The Friendly Pirate) and new songs written exclusively for the show (though some would appear on future albums in one form or another). With the case of their debut album's songs, some were re-recorded to replace ex-member Phillip Wilcher vocals and contributions. The series also took heavy influence from the first two live-action TV Series in terms of humour and stories but was more akin to the short comic stories found in The Wiggles Magazine and various books at the time.
